Another thing movies like this have to live up to is the memory of the original books, not just the books themselves. I’ve gone back and read them recently and the books don’t even hold up to my first reading of them when I was a lot younger. The books never shine as much as the memory of them. What chance does that leave a movie to live up to those memories?

Anyway, thanks for the frank comments on the movie. I’ll eventually check it out once my Netflix list catches up to me.

I have read the DL novels and there is allot wrong with them so I cannot be considered a fanboy. I do love them (mostly just because of the Raistlin and Caramon and that is about it), but this is not why I am going to say what I am going to say about this film.

The animation is worse than the old Heman cartoons. Most of the things that are good about Dragonlance are not there. It is awful on every level. No-one, no matter their fantasy/non-fantasy background should like this film unless they are crap detector disabled (or blind and deaf disabled which would amount to the same thing.)

As for your comment on Hawk The Slayer - yes that is dire as well, but I’d rather watch that 10 times than watch this 1 more. In addition I would watch The Sword And The Sorcerer another 5 as well.

This film should not even get to be reviewed it is that bad. Isn’t it about time fantasy was treated like the rest of the film industry (even horror) and get some half decent writers to create fantasy plots that can actually be considered plots rather than just a piss poor excuse for some characters to have fights.

A genre should not decide the plot. The plot should stand up on its own and be used in a fantasy setting. Then we would get to see lots of special effects and fighting as well as watch a good film between them.

Plot first. Then screen play. Then producer. Then director. Then actors. Then fantasy special effects.

Why should fantasy be any different to any other genre. Why does fantasy warrent skipping right to the end and then trying to insert some half-arsed plot, cheap arse producer, bad porn/soap opera director and actors and then expect it to be any good.

My main problem with this movie was that it was all over the place. The animation style and simplified plot would seem to make it good for kids. I would not have a problem with this as I am introducing my nephew to fantasy, he is 5. However, I cannot show a five year old a movie full of gratuitous jiggle and ass-shots. Also the violence is too graphic for kids.

It looks like a Saturday morning cartoon, which would be fine, but it contains content that just doesn’t fly in that context.

Personaly I give it a 7 on a 10 scale. I agree to a point that the graphics could have been better and the movie did jump around a bit . However for us Die Hard DL fans it was a well needed movie . If you have not read the books it could jump up to a 8 , due to the fact 6 that you would not be expecting some things only to learn they where not included. Like Tika’s Frying pan :D . My Fiance has never read DL and she really liked it , as did my 5 year old son . Both want to see more , as do I . I think maybe they should have gone with some lesser named people as voice overs and went more for the movie itself . Tass could have been ALOT more funny. He is the MAIN reason I read ALL , yes ALL the books . Fizban should have also turned into Dragonform , But again , Maybe I’m just pushing issues . Again, Id like to say Could have been better , But I really hope they continue the series as movies .
