Pazio Publishing made a bold announcement this week. They’re going to continue along the Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 vector with their self-published Pathfinder RPG. The Alpha version of the rule is available as a free PDF download!

The gaming hobby lost a true pioneer today. Venerable Dungeons and Dragons pioneer Gary Gygax passed away at the age of 69. Although I never knew the man personally I pay homage to him and the hobby he helped create in today’s epiosde.

This is hardly news anymore but I wanted to record some thoughts about Wizards’ D&D 4th Edition System Reference Document and OGL Designer’s Kit. The gist of it is that you have to either pay Wizards $5,000 if you want to publish 3rd party D&D materials in August of 2008 or you can wait until January of 2009 and not pay anything. Some pinheads think this is a “screw-job” and I’m going to tell you why it’s not.

Games Workshop released the long-awaited Dark Heresy roleplaying game (set in the Warhammer 40K universe) on 25-Jan-2008 and it is one of the best roleplaying game products I’ve seen in years. Fan response was overwhelmingly positive and the book was entirely sold out within a few days. But this is a GW product and, true to form, within three days they completely nuked it.
