So, I am also an at-43 enthusiast. I don't understand something about your homebrew rule. You seem to be saying that the base, not height is used for LOS. So if a Fire toad is standing behind two low walls, you don't have LOS because its base is concealed? Or are you saying that all Height 3 things block LOS if the miniature is completely concealed behind it -- if it's base is sticking out then perhaps it merely has cover.

Yep, I agree, but I am a sucker for these things, if only for my RPG. If I want mass quantities of them I go to Ebay and get them there.

I just opened a pack today with a Beholder, a Hook Horror and a Dire Wolf today sweet, See the first time they had Dire Wolfs (One of the most common creatures in D&D) it was a rare. Right, it needs to be a rare. :)

Anyways, maybe one day I'll be able to try the actual game out.

Good Summary Chris! Thanks! So hard to choose, I loved the original dead lands, but the Solomon Kane stuff sounds really cool too. If you ever decide to run a Email game of SW I'd love to join in.

I had downloaded Skype last year sometime, thinking it would be a good way to play with some friends across the country, though I never got around to trying it. How does it play? I, too, would like to hear how everything went.

A few questions:
How many people can it support in a conference-style call? Is this the way you played with it?

Does everyone have an open channel to talk, or is it walkie-talkie, push to talk style? How well does it handle if everyone is talking at once?

You can talk privately with just one person, if you wish, right?

Thanks!

I think you've hit my irritation right on the head with your description of the game. The game looks fun but what exactly is the reason a bugbear, a vampire and a beholder want to team up in the first place? I guess I am used to minis games with a more traditional team or faction base. I think that's also why I have never really given the D&D Minis game a go yet.

My preference for D&D minis is to have what I need when I need it for the roleplaying game. With the minis game being a separate, collectible game from the roleplaying game it's not very easy to get the minis I want as some end up being rares. On top of that, I would have to buy several booters until I get the quantity of a certain type needed or I would have to resort to paying higher prices on individuals on the reseller market.

I guess that makes me a game segregationist.

... Hey! You got your chocolate in my peanut butter!

Hello Chris,

I just discovered Skype a few weeks ago and I like it very much for VoIP converservion with a friend of mine who live in NZ. Never thought using it the way you described. It's a great idea and I would love to hear some of the results.

When I heard about the whole Pathfinder RPG I was thinking this is a great chance for some competition with the big companies, seeing that WotC and Paizo are two of the bigger ones. Competition, in this situation looks like it's going to be a positive thing for both the companies and the consumers. The companies will be able to go for their goal with the hobby and the gamers will be able to play two high-quality, actively-supported versions of D&D.

Looks at this stage they are plusses to me and we can just watch how the whole release of 4E plays out this summer.

I agree with your assessment on what needs to happen in the industry with the release of 4th edition. I think Pathfinder offers the chance to keep people in the hobby when 3.5 is not supported anymore and 4th edition is a significant opportunity to draw new (younger) people in.

My main problem with this movie was that it was all over the place. The animation style and simplified plot would seem to make it good for kids. I would not have a problem with this as I am introducing my nephew to fantasy, he is 5. However, I cannot show a five year old a movie full of gratuitous jiggle and ass-shots. Also the violence is too graphic for kids.

It looks like a Saturday morning cartoon, which would be fine, but it contains content that just doesn't fly in that context.

I actually enjoyed reading these books. I especially enjoyed the Worlds and Monsters book where they discussed the changes they made to the cosmology and their reasons for the changes.

Will all the changes be evident in the new books when they come out in a few months? Of course, but their reasons for making those changes probably will not be explained.

I also enjoyed seeing how the iterative process for design worked in a game design setting.

I guess I looked at this books more as a "making of" type thing than a sneak preview type thing.

I have read the DL novels and there is allot wrong with them so I cannot be considered a fanboy. I do love them (mostly just because of the Raistlin and Caramon and that is about it), but this is not why I am going to say what I am going to say about this film.

The animation is worse than the old Heman cartoons. Most of the things that are good about Dragonlance are not there. It is awful on every level. No-one, no matter their fantasy/non-fantasy background should like this film unless they are crap detector disabled (or blind and deaf disabled which would amount to the same thing.)

As for your comment on Hawk The Slayer - yes that is dire as well, but I'd rather watch that 10 times than watch this 1 more. In addition I would watch The Sword And The Sorcerer another 5 as well.

This film should not even get to be reviewed it is that bad. Isn't it about time fantasy was treated like the rest of the film industry (even horror) and get some half decent writers to create fantasy plots that can actually be considered plots rather than just a piss poor excuse for some characters to have fights.

A genre should not decide the plot. The plot should stand up on its own and be used in a fantasy setting. Then we would get to see lots of special effects and fighting as well as watch a good film between them.

Plot first. Then screen play. Then producer. Then director. Then actors. Then fantasy special effects.

Why should fantasy be any different to any other genre. Why does fantasy warrent skipping right to the end and then trying to insert some half-arsed plot, cheap arse producer, bad porn/soap opera director and actors and then expect it to be any good.

Another thing movies like this have to live up to is the memory of the original books, not just the books themselves. I've gone back and read them recently and the books don't even hold up to my first reading of them when I was a lot younger. The books never shine as much as the memory of them. What chance does that leave a movie to live up to those memories?

Anyway, thanks for the frank comments on the movie. I'll eventually check it out once my Netflix list catches up to me.

I’ve gone back and read them recently and the books don’t even hold up to my first reading of them when I was a lot younger. The books never shine as much as the memory of them. What chance does that leave a movie to live up to those memories?

Anyway, thanks for the frank comments on the movie. I’ll eventually check it out once my Netflix list catches up to me.

Another thing movies like this have to live up to is the memory of the original books, not just the books themselves. I've gone back and read them recently and the books don't even hold up to my first reading of them when I was a lot younger. The books never shine as much as the memory of them. What chance does that leave a movie to live up to those memories?

My life would have been so boring with this game - 20 years of playing and the desire is still there. I think of all the friends Ive met and how much I owe this mans imagination.
